High Lake History

Welcome to the High Lake History Pages. High Lake, a beautiful residential community located 30 miles west of Chicago, has a rich history. In the early 1900’s, it consisted of two pleasant family farms surrounding the local swimming hole. Then, in 1910, a Chicago developer turned the area into a community ahead of its’ time, complete with a community clubhouse for social gatherings, electric commuter train service to Chicago and a beautiful swimming lake. Professionals from Chicago were soon moving out to live in the relaxed yet entertaining community of High Lake.

Tales of the clubhouse, the train station, the electric train service and early residents intrigue us. However, it is also fascinating to learn of those who came before; the early settlers and farmers (1835-1910) and the native Americans (50BC to 1835). Please visit each of these three eras of High Lake’s history. We hope you will enjoy your journey through this special place called High Lake.
